Fire Erupts on Mithila Express at Howrah Station, Triggers Panic Among Passengers (x)
Kolkata: A fire broke out in the Mithila Express standing at Howrah station. Smoke was seen coming out of the toilet of the general compartment of the train. This incident spread panic among the passengers.
A fire broke out on the 13021 Howrah-Raxaul Mithila Express at Howrah station on Tuesday. According to reports, the train arrived at the platform number 8 at around 2:59 pm. The passengers reported smoke and fire coming from the bathroom of the third coach (LS coach number ER 247929) at the rear of the train at around 3:45 pm.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Police immediately arrived at the scene. The affected compartment was separated from the rest of the train shortly afterward, and passengers were evacuated. Sniffer dogs were brought to the scene, and a forensic team has begun an investigation. The exact cause of the fire is still unclear.
Hari Narayan Gangopadhyay, Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) and Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Howrah, stated that there was no actual fire, but smoke was observed. The situation has been brought under control. Smoke was seen emanating from a specific spot inside the coach, which has now been isolated and removed from the train.
A major train accident took place on Monday night. Three coaches of the Ujjain Express derailed near the Yog Nagari railway station. The incident took place near Khand village area at around 9:30 pm. The derailed carriage was practically hanging from the sky.
