Pickup Plunges into Gorge in Himachal’s Kangra, Leaving 4 Pilgrims Dead and 25 Injured (Image Source: PTI/File)
In a tragic incident in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district, four pilgrims lost their lives and about 25 others were injured on Friday. The pickup truck carrying them went off the road and fell into a deep gorge. As per the police, the incident occurred near Jadrangal on the Chamunda-Dharamshala road, close to Ikku Mod, when the vehicle reportedly lost control. The victims were devotees returning from the Mata Chamunda Devi temple and heading back to Moga in Punjab.
A woman died instantly at the spot while leaving the others injured. Police rushed to the location after being informed and began rescue efforts. Those who lost their lives were identified as Kiran (35), Sukhjinder Singh (35), Jagsir Singh (38) and Paramjeet Kaur (35), all from Bhagike village in Moga district.
The injured were taken to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College and Hospital in Tanda for treatment. Three more victims died during treatment, while the rest remain admitted. Police confirmed that a case has been filed, and investigations are in progress.
In another similar case on August 13, a pickup van hit a parked truck in Rajasthan’s Dausa district, killing 11 people from Uttar Pradesh, including seven children, and injuring eight more. According to Dausa SP, the victims were returning to their village in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district after visiting Khatu Shyam and Salasar Balaji temples. The crash happened around 4 am on the Manoharpur highway.
Mishthi (1), Babu (3), Poorvi (6), Lakshay (6), Vaishnavi (7), Mahak (7), Saloni (9), Sheela (20), Priyanka (25), Seema (25) and Sonam (32) were the names of the people who died in the accident in Rajasthan. The pickup was carrying 20 passengers when it struck the stationary truck on the highway’s service lane. Among the eight injured, one is in critical condition, officials added.
