Government rubbishes lockdown rumours amid West Asia Crisis: 'lockdown in India are completely false' (X)
New Delhi: Amidst the Iran war, people are wondering if a lockdown is going to be imposed in Iran? Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday, “clearly stating” that the news of a lockdown are completely false as the government is not considering any such move.
Amid an ongoing Middle East crisis, the central government has urged people to remain calm and said that spreading rumours at a time like this was “irresponsible and harmful”.
Taking to X on Friday, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that in such times, it is important that all remain calm, responsible, and united.
"Rumours of a lockdown in India are completely false. Let me state this clearly, there is no such proposal under consideration by the Government of India. In such times, it is important that we remain calm, responsible, and united," he wrote on X.

The clarification statement was released just after the government announced a cut in excise duties on petrol and diesel.
Hardeep Singh Puri in the post said that "we are closely monitoring developments across energy, supply chains, and essential commodities on a real-time basis."
"Under the leadership of Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi Ji, all necessary steps are being taken to ensure uninterrupted availability of fuel, energy, and other critical supplies for our citizens. We are fully prepared to handle emerging challenges," he wrote.
In the post, Hardeep Singh Puri also said that India has shown "resilience in the face of global uncertainties" and will continue to act in the same way in the upcoming time.
"India has consistently demonstrated resilience in the face of global uncertainties, and we will continue to act in a timely, proactive, and coordinated manner. Rumours of a lockdown in India are completely false. Let me state this clearly, there is no such proposal under consideration by the Government of India. In such times, it is important that we remain calm, responsible, and united. Attempts to spread rumours and create panic in such a situation are irresponsible and harmful," he said.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday also dismissed these claims as completely false and urged people not to panic.
Speaking to the media in the Parliament House complex, Kiren Rijiju, stated that reports of a lockdown are completely misleading.
Regarding the excise duty reduction, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister stated that MPs would like to thank the Prime Minister in Parliament. This step has been taken to reduce public pressure. Therefore, MPs would like to thank the Prime Minister. The government has kept everything under control and is advising against any panic.
The clarification from the government comes at a time when the Iran war has heightened global concerns about energy security and supply chains. This has fueled online speculation about a lockdown, forcing the government to issue assurances about its preparedness and the continuity of essential services.
The lockdown speculation gained further traction when news emerged that PM Modi would hold a virtual meeting with state chief ministers on Friday. People began linking this to the Covid-19 pandemic.
