Twenty people, including two minors and several police personnel, were injured and a number of shops damaged as violence erupted Wednesday evening after a Ram Navami procession went past a mosque in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.

20 people injured

More than 20 people were injured in this incident, including a woman and two children. The injured have been admitted to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital and another hospital. There is tension in the area. In view of the tension, the administration has deployed a large number of central forces.

During this period, arson and looting were also carried out in many nearby houses and shops. It is noteworthy that last year also incidents of violence had taken place in Bengal on Ram Navami. Ram Navami processions were attacked in Dalkhola of North Dinajpur, Shivpur of Howrah and Risra and Shrirampur of Hooghly. Many people were injured in these incidents. NIA is investigating these incidents. However, this comes after CM Mamata Banerjee had warned of riots breaking out on Ram Navami in Murshidabad.

BJP's attack on CM Mamata Banerjee

BJP has held state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee responsible for the incident of violence. Amit Malviya, head of BJP's IT cell and co-in-charge of the state, has said that Mamata Banerjee's provocative speech inciting people is responsible for this incident of violence, which she was continuously giving in her meetings for the last few days.

Meanwhile, last year's Ram Navami celebrations in Bengal were marred by violence too, leading to a massive confrontation between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress.
