National news: Clashes between two communities in Gujarat escalated tensions, damaging vehicles and shops, and injuring several people. The clash was reportedly sparked by a social media post. The incident occurred late last night in Bahiyal village, Dahegam, Gandhinagar district. The dispute, which began over a social media status, escalated during a Garba festival, resulting in stone-pelting and a stampede.
According to reports, more than eight vehicles were damaged, and a shop was vandalized and set on fire. Police forces attempting to control the situation were also attacked, and two of their vehicles were damaged in the violence. Footage from the incident showed some people throwing stones at each other and others wielding sticks, while a woman could be heard screaming in panic, possibly calling for her son.
According to reports, a man from the village's Hindu community posted a message on social media, writing "I love Mahadev," and calling for it to trend in response to "I love Mohammed." This post reportedly sparked outrage among the Muslim community. Following the post, some members of the Muslim community went to the boy's shop. However, the boy fled, prompting the group to vandalize the shop.
Police officers arrived at the scene to control the situation, but the mob also targeted them. Two police vehicles were damaged during the clashes. Videos show people extinguishing fires that broke out during the clashes.
Authorities have since deployed a heavy police presence throughout Bahiyal to restore order and prevent further violence. While no casualties have been reported, several people were injured during the clashes. Efforts are currently underway to identify and arrest those involved. Police have appealed to residents to refrain from posting anything online and to cooperate while the investigation
