Himachal Flood: 1286 Roads, 6 NHs Closed Due to Heavy Rain, Orange Alert for 9 Districts

Himachal Pradesh is badly affected by heavy rains. According to the latest forecast issued by weather experts, heavy rain warning has been issued in nine districts in Himachal Pradesh today. Meanwhile, orange alert has been issued in the rest of the districts except Kangra, Una and Hamirpur.

Himachal Flood: 1286 Roads, 6 NHs Closed Due to Heavy Rain, Orange Alert for 9 Districts (Twitter)

Due to continuous rain, 1286 roads are closed for traffic till Thursday morning, including 6 national highways NH-03, NH-05, NH , 21, NH-205, NH-505 and NH-305. Most of the roads are closed in Mandi (293), Kullu (225) and Shimla (216) districts. 

Himachal Pradesh is badly affected by heavy rains. According to the latest forecast issued by weather experts, heavy rain warning has been issued in nine districts today. Meanwhile, orange alert has been issued in the rest of the districts except Kangra, Una and Hamirpur. Rains are expected at some places tomorrow. 

Due to the continuous torrential rains in the state, heavy destruction was witnessed. Landslides and waterlogging occurred at many places leading to damage in crops. Due to the closure of roads, transporters are not purchasing apples, adding to further woes. 

Six NHs and 1286 roads are closed

Due to continuous rain, 1286 roads are closed for traffic till Thursday morning, including 6 national highways NH-03, NH-05, NH , 21, NH-205, NH-505 and NH-305. Most of the roads are closed in Mandi (293), Kullu (225) and Shimla (216) districts. On the other hand, educational institutions have been closed due to heavy rains and closure of roads.

Water to be Released from Pong Dam

The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has decided to increase the discharge of water from Pong Dam. Now one lakh cusecs of water will be released from the dam, whereas earlier 80 thousand cusecs were being released. In Kangra district, Fatehpur, Indora and Dehra subdivision administration have been instructed to remain alert. People in low-lying areas have been appealed to remain alert and move to safer places.

Power and Water Supply Cut Off

There is no electricity in many villages of the state. 2809 transformers are out of order in the state, most of them are in Kullu (1096), Shimla (405), Mandi (404) and Solan (304). Drinking water schemes are also out of order. 1081 schemes are disrupted in the state. Of these, Shimla (349), Kangra (212), Solan (91), Mandi (68) and Kullu (63) are the most affected.

343 People Died in Monsoon Season

So far, 343 people have died and 398 have been injured in the monsoon season from June 20 to September 3. This also includes deaths due to road accidents. 1372 cattle have died. So far, the state has suffered a total loss of Rs 3690.42 crore due to disasters and accidents. The loss to the agriculture sector has been estimated to be Rs 11.45 crore and to horticulture Rs 22.52 crore.
