Suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir has stirred major controversy in West Bengal. Speaking to media, he declared that Murshidabad is not Ayodhya. He issued an open challenge saying no one can touch the proposed Babri Mosque here. His statement has triggered sharp political reactions. Security agencies are watching developments closely. The remarks are spreading fast across social media platforms. Tensions are quietly building in the region.
Humayun Kabir, once a prominent face of the Trinamool Congress, is personally overseeing the project. He claims the decision was emotional and long planned. According to Kabir, the idea was born in 1992 after the Babri Mosque demolition. However, the resolve became final after the 2019 verdict by the Supreme Court of India. He insists the project has no link to Babur. The name, he says, reflects unresolved pain. His words are clearly aimed at provoking debate.
In an interview, Kabir said, “This is Murshidabad, not Ayodhya.” He openly challenged anyone to try stopping the construction. Kabir argued that religious slogans are used freely during elections. He questioned why one slogan is accepted and another is criticized. His comments walk a fine political line. Critics call it provocative. Supporters call it fearless expression. The administration has remained cautious so far.
The proposed mosque is being built in Murshidabad district. Kabir claims to have acquired 25 bighas of land. Legal paperwork is currently in progress. Construction is expected to begin in February next year. He says the mosque will be completed within three years. Weekly Friday prayers are planned. Thousands of bricks have already arrived at the site.
Kabir revealed that nearly two crore rupees have already been collected. He claims the funds came through public donations. According to him, the money is secured and accounted for. No foreign funding has been officially confirmed. Saudi clerics were reportedly present during the foundation ceremony. This detail has raised eyebrows in political circles. Authorities may verify funding sources. The issue could escalate further.
The Babri Mosque was demolished in Ayodhya in 1992. The event deeply altered India’s political and social landscape. In 2019, the disputed land was awarded for a Ram temple. That verdict closed a legal chapter but not emotional wounds. Kabir claims the name “Babri” still resonates strongly. He says it reminds people of historical pain. Critics argue it risks reopening old scars.
The Trinamool Congress has already suspended Kabir. Opposition parties are demanding action. Hindu organizations have raised objections. Law enforcement agencies are assessing ground sentiment. Any escalation could affect communal harmony. The state government is under pressure to respond carefully. Murshidabad now stands at a sensitive crossroads. The coming weeks will decide whether this remains rhetoric or turns into confrontation.
