New Delhi: Severe heat conditions persist across several states in North India. The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave warning for Vidarbha, East Uttar Pradesh, and East Madhya Pradesh for the next four to five days, and for Chhattisgarh for the next two days.
Meanwhile, conditions are favorable for the Southwest Monsoon to advance into the remaining parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, and Odisha, as well as certain areas of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Bihar, over the next 48 hours. Additionally, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected this week in Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim. Isolated very heavy rainfall is likely in Meghalaya today, June 22.
A warning for very heavy rainfall has been issued for seven states in Northeast India for the coming week.
According to the Meteorological Department, very heavy rainfall is expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura between June 22 and June 28. Warnings for thunderstorms and lightning have also been issued for these states during the period of June 22–26. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Arunachal Pradesh (June 23–28); Assam and Meghalaya (June 22–24 and June 24–28); and Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura (June 22–23 and June 26–28).
Regarding South India, scattered or isolated rainfall is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal (June 22–28); North Karnataka (June 22–25); South Karnataka (June 23–24); Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam (June 22–24 and June 28); and Rayalaseema (June 22–25 and June 28). Very heavy rainfall is expected in Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Telangana from June 22 to 28; in North Interior Karnataka from June 26 to 28; in South Interior Karnataka on June 22 and from June 25 to 28; in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam from June 25 to 27; and in Rayalaseema from June 26 to 27.
Regarding East India, widespread rainfall is expected in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, West Bengal, and Sikkim from June 22 to 28; in Gangetic West Bengal on June 22–23 and June 26–28; in Bihar on June 28; and in Odisha on June 22–23. Scattered rainfall is likely in Gangetic West Bengal on June 24–25; in Jharkhand from June 22 to 28; in Bihar from June 22 to 27; and in Odisha from June 24 to 28.
In North India, widespread rainfall is expected in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on June 22. Scattered rainfall is likely in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh from June 23 to 28, and in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from June 22 to 28. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected in isolated areas of Jammu & Kashmir (June 22–26) and Uttarakhand (June 22–25). Additionally, strong winds are expected in Himachal Pradesh from June 22 to 26. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely in isolated areas of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab (June 22–26) and in East and West Rajasthan (June 24). Strong winds are also expected in East and West Rajasthan from June 25 to 28. Isolated hailstorms are likely in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh on June 22.
