National New: India has extended the airspace ban for Pakistani aircraft till 23 August 2025. This decision was taken on Tuesday through a new Notice to Airmen issued by the Central Government. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol informed that this extension is in line with the current strategic and security priorities.
According to media reports, this ban was first implemented on May 1, when India banned Pakistani planes during 'Operation Sindoor.' This is directly related to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, in which 26 people lost their lives, including a foreign national. Two days later, Pakistan closed its airspace for Indian planes. Then India retaliated by banning Pakistani planes from April 30.
According to the latest NOTAM issued by India, Pakistani-registered aircraft, or aircraft owned, operated, or leased by Pakistan, whether civilian or military, will not be able to enter Indian airspace. Earlier, on June 24, this ban was extended till July 24, and now it has been extended for another month.
On the other hand, Pakistan has also extended the ban on its airspace for Indian aircraft till 24 August 2025. According to a NOTAM issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority on 18 July, this ban came into effect at 3:50 pm on 18 July and will remain in force till 5:19 am on 24 August. This ban will apply to all civil and military aircraft registered, owned, or operated in India.
Both countries have extended these restrictions several times since May, reflecting regional tensions and security concerns. This air confrontation has also affected the air services of both countries, especially international routes.
