The sinking of land has prompted several people to move to safer places after more than 50 houses, four electricity towers, a receiving station, and a main road got damaged in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban on Friday.

Ramban Deputy Commissioner Baseer-ul-Haq Choudhary has assured all the assistance for the essential services, including electricity from the district administration. The statement from the Deputy Commission came after visiting Pernote village, which is almost five kilometers from the district headquarters.

Due to the sudden sinking of land, the houses have started developing cracks and the road connectivity between Gool and Ramban snapped since Thursday evening, prompting several families to move to safer places.

“This is a natural disaster and being the head of the district, I take full responsibility for providing food and shelter to the affected families,” Choudhary, who was accompanied by District Development Council (DDC) chairperson Shamshad Shan, told reporters at the scene.

The deputy commissioner has asked the people not to panic and take all the precautionary measures to safeguard their lives. Localities are taking the help of NDRF and SDRF teams.

Meanwhile, the district development council authorities have approached geology experts to find the cause behind the sinking of the land, while a team of district officials has been deployed to supervise the condition round-the-clock.

Notably, this is not the first time when the area has witnessed the sinking of land, in February last year, 16 houses were affected due to the natural disaster at Duksar Dalwa village in the Sangaldan area.
