Jaggu Bhagwanpuria (Social Media)
National News: The escalating turf war among Punjab’s notorious gangs took a violent turn on Thursday night, when Harjit Kaur, mother of gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, and his close aide Karanvir Singh were fatally shot in Batala. The incident has sparked an open feud online, with the Bambiha group claiming responsibility, calling it a retaliation for a past killing. In response, Bhagwanpuria’s faction has issued strong, emotionally charged statements, warning that a dangerous threshold has now been crossed. Security analysts fear this could be the beginning of a far more brutal conflict.
Sources reveal that Harjit Kaur and Karanvir Singh had returned from Tarn Taran following a court-related appointment. While sitting inside their Scorpio SUV, parked outside their rented home in Batala, two bike-borne assailants approached and opened fire at close range. Both were declared dead on the spot.
Within hours, members of the Bambiha syndicate—Doni Bal, Billa Manga, Prabhu Dasuwal, and Kaushal Chaudhary—posted on social media, admitting they carried out the attack.
Doni Bal, in the first public message, alleged that Karanvir Singh was instrumental in managing fugitive operations for Bhagwanpuria’s gang.
“We executed Karan to settle the score for our brother Gora Bariar,” he posted. “Respect for parents is universal, but those complicit in our loss should be prepared for consequences.”
A more introspective statement followed the next day, distancing the group from Harjit Kaur’s killing.
“What happened last night was deeply regrettable. Mothers are sacred, regardless of alliances. Our quarrel is with criminals, not their families,” the post read. “Kaushal Chaudhary would never endorse targeting women or non-combatants.”
A third clarification from the group claimed that the original intention was solely to eliminate Karanvir.
“We had no knowledge that his mother would be present. The attack happened in the dark and she was not meant to be harmed,” they stated.
They further added, “When Gora was killed, his family was not spared either. This is the ugly truth of gang rivalry. Still, we regret the unintended death.”
The post concluded with a chilling warning: “Do not mistake our intent. If anyone slanders us, we won’t hesitate to retaliate—and families won’t be off-limits. No one is untouchable.”
Responding to the killings, the Bhagwanpuria faction posted an emotional statement condemning the murder of Harjit Kaur:
“This isn’t just a gang conflict—it’s a personal tragedy. Our fight was with criminals, not with mothers or family members. She stood by me through the darkest times. No gang war justifies this. Today, we lost not just a comrade, but a mother.”
The group emphasized that they never targeted innocents: “We’ve always drawn the line at family. They’ve crossed it. This isn’t revenge—it’s cowardice.”
With both gangs exchanging barbs and threats online, Punjab Police have stepped up surveillance and deployed additional forces in Batala, Amritsar, and Tarn Taran. Officials are also monitoring digital chatter closely, amid fears that further violence may be imminent.
Once confined to streets and prisons, Punjab’s gang wars have now taken a virtual turn—where confessions, justifications, and threats are issued openly on social media. This dangerous trend blurs the line between violence and spectacle, further complicating law enforcement’s efforts. As the situation deteriorates, urgent intervention may be needed to prevent the spiral of vengeance from engulfing innocent lives.
