King Cobra
Odisha News: A terrifying scene unfolded at SSD Higher Secondary School in Rayagada block of Odisha’s Gajapati district when a 15-foot-long King Cobra slithered into a sixth-grade classroom on Wednesday evening. For days, the massive reptile had been spotted roaming the school premises, evading all attempts at capture. But this time, it entered a classroom full of children, triggering fear and chaos among the staff.
When the snake entered the classroom, the alert school staff acted with composure. They quickly evacuated the students and shut the door, effectively trapping the King Cobra inside to prevent further danger. The school administration wasted no time and contacted the Snake Helpline immediately for expert assistance.
Within hours, professional rescuers Ramchandra Sahu and Jagannath Sahu from Ganjam district's Chikiti-based Snake Helpline arrived. Armed with years of experience and special equipment, the duo began the tense operation. After nearly 30 minutes of careful maneuvering, they successfully captured the gigantic cobra without any injuries to people or the snake.
As news of the incident spread, a crowd quickly gathered at the school. Locals were both curious and horrified to see the enormous snake, which was hissing loudly and even rising vertically in a classic cobra defense pose. Many were stunned by its size and aggression, describing the sight as something out of a wildlife documentary.
Following its capture, the King Cobra was safely released into a dense, uninhabited forest area—far from human settlements. This allowed the snake to return to its natural habitat without harm. The community, once paralyzed by fear, is now breathing a sigh of relief. The school management thanked the snake helpline team for their courage and swift action.
The King Cobra, one of the world’s most venomous and feared snakes, can kill with a single bite. Despite their fearsome reputation, experts stress their importance in maintaining ecological balance. Incidents like this highlight the delicate coexistence between wildlife and humans—especially in rural and forest-adjacent regions of India.
