Imphal: The northeastern state of Manipur got a new government on Wednesday. Y Khemchand Singh took the oath of office as Chief Minister at the Lok Bhavan, a day after being elected leader of the BJP and the NDA alliance. Manipur Governor Ajay Bhalla administered the oath of office and secrecy to him. The swearing-in ceremony was held at 6 PM at the Lok Bhavan.

In Manipur, the then Chief Minister N. Biren Singh had resigned on February 9 last year. President's rule was imposed on February 13. Is there hope for peace in Manipur?

The formation of the new government in Manipur, which has been in the national spotlight due to ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities, is being considered a major success. There are high hopes for the restoration of peace in the state after the formation of the new government, as the new CM, Y Khemchand Singh, has a liberal image. He belongs to the Meitei community, but the Kukis also hold him in high regard. Y Khemchand Singh had staked his claim before the Governor earlier in the day before taking the oath of office. A few hours later, the central government lifted President's rule. Following this, the swearing-in ceremony of the new government took place.

Who are the Deputy Chief Ministers?

While Y Khemchand Singh took the oath as Chief Minister, two Deputy Chief Ministers and other ministers also took the oath along with him. Nemcha Kipgen was not in Imphal, so she attended the swearing-in ceremony online from Manipur Bhavan in New Delhi. She took the oath online. In the new government, Nemcha Kipgen, who belongs to the Kuki community, and Losii Dikho from the Naga community will be the Deputy Chief Ministers. Govindas Konthoujam also took the oath in the new government. He has been made the Home Minister.

What did Prime Minister Narendra Modi say?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the new government on taking office in Manipur. PM Modi wrote, "Congratulations to Yumnam Khemchand Singh on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Manipur." I would also like to congratulate Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho on taking oath as Deputy Chief Ministers of the state, and Konthoujam Govindas Singh and Khuraijam Lokken Singh on being sworn in as ministers in the Government of Manipur. I am confident that they will work diligently to further the development and prosperity of my brothers and sisters in Manipur.
