National News: India has achieved a historic breakthrough in tackling one of its most complex internal security threats—Naxalism. In an unprecedented 24-day-long operation in the Abujhmad forests of Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, the Maoist insurgency has suffered a decisive blow—not just militarily, but psychologically as well. Security forces now believe that Naxalism could be completely eradicated from India by 2026.
Launched on April 21, 2025, the operation covered 1,200 square kilometers of rugged terrain. Despite the scorching 45°C heat, dense forests, and over 450 planted IEDs, security forces engaged in 21 encounters and destroyed 216 Maoist bases. Four technical units used for bomb-making were also dismantled.
Over 300 armed Maoists, including members of the PLGA’s technical wing, were hiding in the region. But this time, the army’s strategy and technology prevailed. For the Maoists, this was not just a battlefield defeat—it was a crushing ideological setback. The psychological fortress of Abujhmad, once dubbed the ‘Red Fort,’ is now crumbling.
Security agencies believe the Maoist leadership is now fragmented into smaller units. The focus has shifted to eliminating these top commanders by the end of 2025, paving the way for a complete wipeout of Naxalism by 2026. This confidence stems not just from battlefield victories but also from the Maoists’ recent signals indicating willingness to engage in dialogue.
In a rare move, Abhay—a member of the Maoist Central Committee—confirmed the death of 26 comrades and appealed to Prime Minister Modi for peace talks. This marks a significant ideological surrender and a sign that the once-rigid insurgent movement may now be bending before democratic dialogue.
The operation has not only bolstered the morale of the government and security forces but also sparked hope among thousands of villagers who have lived in fear for decades. Now, development, education, and healthcare can finally reach a region where only the sound of guns once echoed. Operation Abujhmad is emerging as a turning point in India's battle against Naxalism. If this momentum continues, the complete eradication of Naxalism by 2026 is not just possible—it’s inevitable.
