National News: The much-awaited Monsoon 2025 has arrived with full force, bringing widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall across multiple regions of India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh warnings as active weather systems are set to influence the country’s climate over the next several days, causing significant rain and wind activity.

New Weather Dynamics Unfold

A fresh low-pressure area has developed over the northwestern part of the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours. This system will trigger intense rainfall, especially over northeastern states, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim until May 30. The southwest monsoon has advanced further into Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and parts of the Bay of Bengal, signaling the expansion of the rainy season.

Heavy Downpours Expected Along Western Coast

The western coast of India, including Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, and coastal Maharashtra, is bracing for heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 3-4 days. Coastal and southern interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are also under the weather department’s radar for localized heavy downpours.

North-Northwestern India to Experience New Rainfall Spell

With the activation of a new western disturbance, northern and northwestern India can expect a fresh bout of thunderstorms and heavy showers, accompanied by gusty winds. States like Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Jammu-Kashmir are forecasted to see strong winds reaching speeds of 50-70 km/h, along with moderate to heavy rain spells in isolated areas.

Weather Warnings and Alerts

The IMD has alerted several regions about the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall, especially in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Interior regions of Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema are also expected to face strong winds of up to 70 km/h. Additionally, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Bihar, and Odisha are on the lookout for continuing heavy rains.

Recent Weather Recap

In the last 24 hours, parts of western Madhya Pradesh, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal and southern interior Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms with gusty winds were recorded in Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Chhattisgarh.

What Lies Ahead?

As Monsoon 2025 steadily progresses, India’s diverse regions will continue to experience dynamic weather patterns. The active western disturbance and developing low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal are expected to keep the monsoon vigor high, impacting agriculture, water reservoirs, and daily life. Citizens are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and take necessary precautions during periods of heavy rain and strong winds.
