National News: The political landscape of Bihar has heated up ahead of the 2025 Assembly Elections after Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) president and former minister Mukesh Sahni made a bold declaration—his party will field candidates in 60 constituencies. The announcement came through Sahni’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, sparking buzz across political circles in the state.

Key Strategy Finalized

Sahni’s decision was formalized during a two‑day national executive meeting of the VIP held in Valmikinagar, West Champaran. After the session, he clarified that the VIP would independently contest 60 seats, while the remaining constituencies would be distributed among other Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) partners.

Big Targets and Bigger Hopes

According to party spokesperson Dev Jyoti, the VIP has set an ambitious goal of winning at least 40 seats from its chosen constituencies. Sahni further asserted that his party holds significant influence over 150 seats statewide and consistently maintains a vote share of 8–10%, making it a force to reckon with in Bihar politics.

Tensions Brewing Within the Grand Alliance

Currently, the VIP is part of the Mahagathbandhan, which also includes RJD, Congress, and the Left parties. However, Sahni’s demand for 60 seats has increased pressure on seat‑sharing talks within the alliance.

Sources reveal that RJD aims to contest 135–140 seats and initially offered VIP only 12–20 seats. But Sahni has insisted that since the VIP represents the influential Nishad community—comprising nearly 12% of Bihar’s population—their share in the electoral pie should reflect that demographic strength.

Reservation Push and Deputy CM Demand

Sahni has made it clear that his party will demand special reservation for the Nishad community and, if the Mahagathbandhan forms the government, will also stake claim to the Deputy Chief Minister’s post. His bold statement has stirred unease among RJD and Congress leaders, as no final consensus on seat distribution has been reached.

“Haq Hamara Aarakshan”—Campaign ”Anthem Launched

Stepping up its election campaign, VIP has rolled out a poll anthem titled “Haq Hamara Aarakshan” (Reservation Is Our Right). The song directly attacks the BJP over the alleged reservation cap and reinforces Sahni’s agenda of social justice and equal rights.

What Does This Signal?

Mukesh Sahni’s declaration is a strong indication that VIP no longer intends to remain a junior ally; instead, it seeks to establish itself as a decisive force in Bihar’s politics. The seat-sharing negotiations within the Mahagathbandhan may now get more complicated, given VIP’s firm stance.

Mukesh Sahni’s aggressive pitch ahead of the elections is both a show of strength and a warning to the Grand Alliance—securing the crucial Nishad community’s support will not be possible without the VIP’s backing.
