The fire that has engulfed the forest area of Nainital does not see an end. The Uttarakhand government has now intensified the operations as Indian Air Force helicopters took charge to extinguish the fire. According to the sources, 41 teams of NDRF personnel rushed to Nainital to support the fire officials in controlling the fire. Apart from this, the Almora fire brigade extinguished the forest fire that broke out near Pataldevi and prevented it from reaching the populated area.

NDRF teams have been deployed in Nainital's Manora Range, Bhawali, Bhimtal, and the surrounding area to control the fire.
According to the officials, eight incidents of forest fires have been reported in the past 24 hours, with four occurring in the Kumaon region. Notably, this is not the first time, before this, the state has witnessed 606 forest fire incidents, resulting in damage to over 735.8 hectares of forest land. As per experts, increased temperature, prolonged dry spells and reduced humid levels are contributing to the incidents.

Meanwhile, as a precaution, the administration has stopped boating at the famous Naini Lake.

Officials' leave cancelled

Amid the rising fire incidents, the Uttarakhand administration has canceled the leaves of all the officials of the departments concerned. Highlighting the urgent need for preventive measures, the forest officials have been asked to report to work. The notification also emphasizes accountability, stating that strict action will be taken against officials found in negligence on forest fire control.

Meanwhile, Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand said, "We are asking for help from all the institutions including the Indian Army. The locals are also being asked to cooperate towards dousing the fire...The responsibility of the officers found responsible in this will also be fixed."
