Shocker in Karnataka Politics: A storm has engulfed Karnataka's political landscape following allegations of an alleged sex scandal implicating former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda’s grandson and Hassan MP, Prajwal Revanna. The Karnataka government swiftly responded by forming a special investigation team (SIT) to delve into the matter, prompted by a letter from Dr Nagalakshmi, Chairperson of the Women’s Commission.

A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against Prajwal Revanna and his father, HD Revanna, an MLA representing Holenarasipur, based on a complaint by a woman who worked at Revanna's residence. The complainant disclosed that she was emboldened to step forward and name the father-son duo after witnessing videos of other victims sharing their traumatic experiences.

Allegations of Misconduct

According to the woman, Prajwal Revanna began summoning her to his quarters in the fourth month of her employment. In a chilling revelation, she stated that apprehension loomed among the six female staff members whenever Prajwal Revanna returned home. Moreover, male colleagues warned them to be cautious.

The complainant further alleged that HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna had sexually harassed female workers within their residences. She claimed that when HD Revanna's wife was absent, he would call female staff to the storeroom, where he would inappropriately touch them while offering fruits, and even go as far as to remove saree pins.

Furthermore, the woman accused Prajwal Revanna of misbehaving with her daughter during a video call, prompting her daughter to block his number.

Legal Proceedings

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (outraging modesty of a woman).

In light of these developments, Prajwal Revanna is reported to have left the country for Germany. However, Home Minister G Parameshwara emphasized that the SIT will pursue the investigation diligently, even if Prajwal is abroad.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed profound dismay, stating, "We are hanging our heads in shame." He condemned Prajwal's alleged actions, considering him an MP and the grandson of a former Prime Minister.

The JD(S), part of the BJP-led NDA, had nominated Prajwal from Hassan, which went to polls on April 26.
