‘Remove NTA’: Supreme Court Petition Seeks Judicial Oversight for NEET Re-Exam (X @ANI)
New Delhi: NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy has now reached the Supreme Court. The Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) has filed a petition in the apex court raising serious questions on the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The petition has alleged that there has been a “systemic failure” in conducting the examination and the existing system has lost the confidence of the students. FAIMA has demanded from the court that the responsibility of conducting the NEET exam be handed over from NTA to a new and more secure institution.
The petition demands instructions to the central government to form a technically strong and independent agency in place of NTA for an important examination like NEET. FAIMA says that the continuous irregularities have raised serious questions on the credibility of the examination system. The organization also said that it is necessary to make a sensitive process like medical entrance examination completely transparent and secure.
The petition has also demanded re-conduct of NEET-UG 2026. FAIMA wants the examination to be conducted under the supervision of a high-level committee constituted under the supervision of the Supreme Court. There has been a demand to include retired Supreme Court judge, a cybersecurity expert, and a forensic scientist in this committee. The organization says that until a new examination agency is formed, this committee should monitor the entire process.
FAIMA has also demanded in the petition to adopt a computer-based test i.e. CBT model. The organization says that in physical paper system, there are more risks related to paper leakage and transportation. In such a situation, security can be increased by implementing digital locking and online examination system. It is also said that many national and international examinations are already being conducted successfully in CBT mode.
The petition has also requested the Supreme Court to direct the CBI to file a status report within four weeks. In this, a demand has been made to give complete information about the paper leak network, arrests, accused and progress of the investigation. FAIMA says that transparency in investigation is very important to restore the confidence of students and parents.
NEET-UG 2026 exam held on May 3 was cancelled after allegations of a paper leak. Reports claimed that many of the questions that went viral on WhatsApp and Telegram matched the original question paper. After this the central government handed over the investigation of the case to CBI. Now the petition filed in the Supreme Court has made this controversy even bigger.
