'No action...' Supreme Court Hears Petitions On Delhi's Toxic Air (X / @AIRNewsHindi)
New Delhi: In a major update related to Delhi's air quality, the Supreme Court on Monday was informed that some of the monitoring stations in Delhi are not working. It is to be noted here that Delhi’s air quality on Monday was recorded to be ‘very poor’, with an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 304 at 1:05 pm.
In a major development, one of the counsels informed the apex court that on Diwali, only nine out of 37 monitoring stations were working. The statement of the counsel read, “We don't even know when to implement GRAP. That is the severe situation, my lords.”
Meanwhile, another counsel informed SC that there were “reports after reports in media on the non-functioning of the monitoring index”.
It is to be mentioned here that the Chief Justice of India BR Gavai has sought a report from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). It has asked about the measures being taken stop the air quality from degrading further.
Delhi's air quality has degraded in the national capital as the air quality was recorded ‘very poor’ on Monday. As per the CPCB’s Sameer app, a total of 28 monitoring stations recorded an AQI above 300, which was recorded to be into the ‘very poor’ category.
Notably, on Sunday also the situation was recorded to be similar as the national capital’s AQI remained to be under ‘very poor’ category. On Sunday, three monitoring stations recorded ‘severe’ air quality which was above 400.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi also stated his comment on Delhi's air. Taking to X, the Congress leader posted, ''Year after year, Delhi's air is becoming increasingly poisonous, but BJP governments just keep changing their excuses. Now, both at the center and in Delhi, it's their own government in power. Now, not excuses, the public wants clean air.''
