National News: North India is currently battling heavy rains and floods. The situation is becoming increasingly serious in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Delhi. Somewhere the rivers are flowing above the danger mark; somewhere the water level of the dams is increasing rapidly, which has further deepened the danger of floods.

Dams become a cause of concern in Punjab

The water level of Pong Dam in Punjab has reached 14 feet above the danger limit. At the same time, Bhakra Dam is also just one foot below the danger mark. Floodgates have been opened more for safety, due to which the water level of the Sutlej and Beas rivers has increased further. Its effect is clearly visible on the Rupnagar, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana districts. Many embankments of Ludhiana have become weak. The army and administration are engaged in strengthening them and building ring dams.

Pressure on Harike Pattan

The water pressure is continuously increasing on Harike Pattan Headworks in the Tarn Taran district. The water released from here is worsening the situation in the villages of Ferozepur and Fazilka. According to statistics, so far 43 people have lost their lives in Punjab, while more than 1600 villages are in the grip of floods. Lakhs of people have been affected, and thousands of hectares of crops have been destroyed.

Ghaggar river increased difficulties

The Ghaggar river flowing through Patiala, Sangrur, and Mansa districts is also in spate. Water has entered many villages. People trapped here are being taken to safe places with the help of the NDRF and the army.

Landslides in Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir

Due to continuous rains, incidents of landslides have increased in Himachal Pradesh. Two houses were destroyed due to debris in Kullu. One person died, and many people are reported missing. At the same time, five people have been injured due to a landslide in Kishtwar, Jammu, and Kashmir. Apart from this, the water of the Jhelum River has filled many villages, due to which people are being taken to safe places.

Crisis increased in Delhi and Haryana

In Delhi, the Yamuna River is flowing two meters above the danger mark. Due to this, low-lying areas are flooded, and thousands of people have become homeless. The traffic system is badly affected. Waterlogging in areas like Yamuna Bank Metro Station and Kashmiri Gate ISBT has increased the problems of the people.

At the same time, due to the continuous release of water from Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana, there is a threat of flood in districts like Yamunanagar, Karnal, and Sonipat.
