PM Modi Praises Trump as Hamas Moves to Release Israeli Hostages (X)
PM Modi Lauds Trump Over Gaza-Hamas Peace Deal:Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday welcomed US President Donald Trump's role in the Gaza peace process. This came after Hamas expressed its readiness to release hostages and accept parts of Trump's plan.
"We welcome President Trump's leadership as peace efforts in Gaza are making decisive progress. Signs of hostage release are an important step in this direction," the Prime Minister said in a statement on Twitter.
Reiterating New Delhi's long-standing position, the Prime Minister said that India "will continue to strongly support all efforts towards a lasting and just peace," and stressed the importance of stability and reconciliation in the Middle East.
This development has come at a time when Indo-US relations have been affected to some extent due to business stress. In August 2025, President Trump imposed a 50% fee on Indian exports for India's trade imbalance and India's Russian oil procurement during the Ukraine War. These tariffs were described by Indian authorities as "unjust" and "unreasonable."
Despite these challenges, there have been some indications to improve relationships recently. In September 2025, President Trump called Prime Minister Modi late at night to wish his 75th birthday. Modi publicly welcomed this call and committed to strengthen the Indo-US partnership.
In addition, in early October 2025, President Trump reposted Prime Minister Modi's message on Gaza Shanti Yojana on his TRUTH Social account. Although Trump did not make any additional comments with it, it was considered a diplomatic signal.
These developments indicate that the relationship between the two countries is complex, in which the possibilities of cooperation in international peace initiatives amidst business disputes are also seen.
