KEJRIWAL
Punjab News: Punjab will no longer face electricity cuts as the Aam Aadmi Party government launched the “Roshan Punjab” scheme. Arvind Kejriwal, along with CM Bhagwant Mann, laid the foundation in Jalandhar. The project worth ₹5,000 crore will modernize power transmission and distribution. More than 25,000 kilometers of new cables will be installed. Around 8,000 transformers will be added to meet demand. The plan also includes 77 new substations and overhauling 200 existing ones. This move is expected to make Punjab the second state after Delhi to enjoy uninterrupted free power.
Arvind Kejriwal said only AAP has dared to dream of giving 24-hour free electricity. In Delhi, the party already provides power without cuts, and now Punjab will follow the same path. Currently, 90% of Punjab households already receive free power up to 600 units every two months. Farmers, who earlier waited for midnight electricity to irrigate fields, now receive power during the day. Industries too benefit as Punjab offers the fourth cheapest electricity rate in the country. Kejriwal stressed that real progress comes when every home, farm, and factory gets reliable power.
According to Kejriwal, Punjab never lacked power generation but suffered from poor infrastructure. Old wires were damaged, and transformers often failed under heavy load. Successive governments ignored the collapsing system for 75 years. Now, with new cables and transformers, the network will be modernized. The SCADA monitoring system will allow officials to control the entire grid from one room. This upgrade will ensure there are no blackouts even in peak summer. Kejriwal said the project will show how governance with vision can solve problems ignored for decades.
CM Bhagwant Mann praised Kejriwal’s foresight, saying AAP has forced traditional parties to change their manifestos. Earlier, no party prioritized electricity, health, or education. Now these have become central issues. Mann highlighted that Punjab revived the Pachhwara coal mine, closed since 2015, giving the state additional fuel supply. The government also purchased the Goindwal power plant from a private company, a first in Indian history. This move reversed the old trend where governments sold assets cheaply. The plant has been renamed after Guru Amar Das Ji, ensuring both faith and development are respected.
During the floods that devastated Punjab, 60 people lost their lives. AAP MP Dr. Ashok Mittal promised jobs to affected families. So far, 35 families have been given employment in his university. Kejriwal praised this gesture, saying real leaders spend their resources to serve society. He said such support is not charity but a continuous responsibility. With schemes like this, AAP is creating a culture of social accountability. Kejriwal called it proof that when the government and society work together, even tragedy can turn into hope.
CM Mann said electricity is the lifeline of the economy, and Punjab’s reforms are helping every sector. More than 55,000 government jobs have already been given to youth on merit, reducing unemployment. The state is also fighting drug abuse, with strong measures against the mafia. In education, the “Schools of Eminence” have produced excellent results. Hundreds of students cleared JEE and NEET exams, proving reforms are working. Healthcare has also improved with 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics treating more than 1.7 crore people with free medicines.
Mann said Punjab’s achievements make it a lighthouse for the country. Where earlier governments left darkness, AAP has brought light in every sense. Whether through free electricity, better schools, or healthcare, Punjab is now moving towards holistic growth. The Roshan Punjab project is not just about wires and transformers, but about giving dignity and comfort to every citizen. With this step, Punjab is on track to become a no-powercut state by next year, a promise no other government dared to make.
