In the video, the principal is seen pulling the boy's hair and subjecting him to harsh punishment. The footage quickly gained traction on social media, leading to widespread condemnation from netizens who labeled the incident "unacceptable." Many demanded immediate action against the accused.

Government's swift response

Journalist Gagandeep Singh brought the incident to light by sharing the video on his X (formerly Twitter) account, tagging Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains. Singh's caption highlighted the incident, stating, "On Camera: Punjab School Principal Beats Student, Pulls His Hair at Private School in Hoshiarpur; Education Minister Orders FIR After Video Goes Viral."

Responding promptly, Harjot Singh Bains clarified that the incident occurred at a private school and directed the district administration to file an FIR against the school owner, principal, and teacher involved.

The minister further condemned the misreporting of the incident as being linked to a government school. He defended government school teachers, saying, “Our hardworking teachers dedicate themselves to arranging extra classes and ensuring student success. Misrepresentation like this undermines their tireless efforts.”
