New Delhi: The Padma Awards 2026 have been announced, and a preliminary list has been released. Sources indicate that this preliminary list includes individuals who are expected to be honored with the Padma Awards this year. However, the full, official list will be released by the government this evening.
According to officials, this preliminary list includes numerous names associated with literature, education, social service, medicine, the arts, and public welfare. These include Anke Gowda, for his contributions to literature and education, along with names like Brajlal Bhatt, Budhari Tati, Bhagwan Das Raikwar, Dharam Lal Chunni Lal Pandya, Dr. Shyam Sundar, Charan Hembram, and K. Panjanivel.
The names being discussed for the Padma Shri 2026 reportedly include Dr. Punniyamoorthy Natesan from Tamil Nadu, Gafruddin Mewati from Rajasthan, Dr. Armida Fernandes and Bhiklya Ladkya Dhinda from Maharashtra, Chiranji Lal Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Kumaraswamy Thangaraj from Telangana, and Dr. Padma Gurmet from Jammu and Kashmir. The complete and final list of Padma Awards 2026 will be officially released by the Government of India this evening.

The Padma Awards, namely the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, are among the highest civilian honors in the country. Established in 1954, these awards are announced annually on Republic Day. These awards recognize outstanding achievements and services in all fields/disciplines, including art, literature and education, sports, medicine, social service, science and engineering, public works, civil service, trade and industry. All individuals are eligible for these awards, regardless of caste, occupation, position, or gender. Except for physicians and scientists, other government servants, including those working in public sector undertakings, are not eligible for the Padma Awards.
