New Delhi: The meeting held in New Delhi on Sunday is considered very important regarding the relations between India and America. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, after talking to Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, clearly said that the relations between the two countries are no longer limited to just general partnership. He acknowledged that India and America have become important allies of each other on many global issues. Many important topics like terrorism, visa, trade, energy and Indo-Pacific region were discussed in the meeting. Both the leaders also talked about further strengthening the relations in the joint press conference.

Was terrorism considered the biggest threat?

In the press conference, Jaishankar bluntly said that the biggest common challenge facing India and America is terrorism. He said that the thinking of both of them is very clear on this. In the last few years, intelligence sharing, counter-terrorism strategies and working together of security agencies have increased significantly. This means that now there are not just statements, action is also being taken on the ground simultaneously.

What was discussed about the tension in West Asia?

A lot of the meeting time was spent on West Asia. There was a long discussion on the situation in Iran, Israel and Gulf countries. This timing is also special, because right now there are reports of behind-the-scenes talks between America and Iran. Jaishankar indicated that both countries recognized that peace was necessary in the entire region. If there is a fire there, it will affect the whole world.

What did America say on Iran's nuclear program?

Marco Rubio said in clear words that America's stand has not changed. Iran will not be allowed to make nuclear weapons under any circumstances. He also said that the way for talks with Iran is open. Something big may be seen in the coming days. That means there is both strictness and diplomacy.

Why was the Strait of Hormuz mentioned?

Rubio made a big statement in the conversation regarding the Strait of Hormuz. This sea route is the lifeline of the world's oil. About 20% of the world's oil comes from here. Rubio said that this road should remain open at all costs. If tension increases in West Asia, anyone can try to stop this route. America will not let this happen.

Was the relationship described as a 'global partnership'?

Jaishankar said that India-America cooperation is no longer a matter of just two countries. Its impact falls on the entire world. Be it Indo-Pacific or climate change, both are together. Rubio also described India as America's most important strategic partner. He said that this relationship is not just about deals, the thinking is also similar.

Overall, the message is clear that Delhi and Washington are now ready to stand shoulder to shoulder on every major issue.
