On Friday morning, a devastating road accident in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district claimed six lives and left one person seriously injured. The incident happened near Chirchari village, under the Bagnadi police station limits, when a car collided head-on with a truck.
According to Rajnandgaon Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg, the accident happened around 5:30 am. A group of seven friends, aged 25 to 34, had begun their interstate trip from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. After visiting Ujjain, they were on their way to Puri in Odisha through Chhattisgarh when the crash took place.
Initial investigation suggests that the car driver may have fallen asleep while driving. The car reportedly crossed the road divider and entered the opposite lane, where it hit a truck coming from the other direction at high speed.
Five of the passengers died instantly, and another person passed away soon after being taken to a nearby hospital. The car’s driver, critically injured in the crash, was taken to the medical college hospital for emergency treatment.
Out of the five identified deceased, four were from Madhya Pradesh and one from Odisha. They were named as Akash Maurya (28), Govind (33), Aman Rathore (26), Nitin Yadav (34), and Sangram Kesari. The identity of the sixth victim has not yet been confirmed. Officials are continuing their investigation into whether fatigue, overspeeding, or other reasons caused the deadly crash. The driver’s condition remains critical.
