PM Modi (ANI)
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday responded to the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address in the Lok Sabha, beginning his speech with praise for the President's remarks. During his address, PM Modi took an indirect swipe at former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, though he refrained from mentioning him by name.
"These days, there is a lot of discussion in the media, and even more on social media. Some leaders are focused on homes, jacuzzis, and stylish showers, but our focus is on delivering water to every household," PM Modi stated in Parliament.
His remarks come just a day before the Delhi Assembly elections, where voting is set to take place on February 5 to elect 70 MLAs. The statement is widely seen as a reference to the controversy surrounding Kejriwal’s residence, which the BJP has dubbed the 'Sheeshmahal'—a term referring to his official residence that was allegedly renovated at an exorbitant cost.
Throughout the high-decibel election campaign, which concluded on February 4, the BJP repeatedly targeted Kejriwal over the alleged misuse of public funds for his luxurious lifestyle. The issue of the so-called 'Sheeshmahal' became a central point of BJP’s attacks, as they accused the AAP leader of extravagance while ordinary citizens struggle with basic necessities.
Apart from his attack on the opposition, PM Modi commended the President's speech, emphasizing its significance for India's progress in the coming years.
"The President's address instills new confidence for the next 25 years and strengthens the resolve for a developed India. It creates fresh enthusiasm and inspires the general public to work towards national growth," the Prime Minister asserted.
With the Delhi elections set to take place, PM Modi’s remarks further intensified the political battle between the BJP and AAP, with both parties vying for dominance in the national capital.
