West Bengal: Suvendu Adhikari Unveils Full Cabinet Portfolios, Keeps Home Department (X@ANI)
Kolkata: A few days after the formation of the new government in West Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari distributed departments among the ministers. According to the notification issued on Wednesday, senior leader Swapan Dasgupta has been given the responsibility of the Finance Department, while Tapas Roy has been given the Industry, Commerce and Enterprise Department. Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee has got the charge of Health and Family Welfare Department. The chief minister has kept important departments like Home, Land and Land Reforms, Energy and Law with himself.
In the list released by the government, many senior leaders have been assigned important departments. The finance portfolio has been given to Swapan Dasgupta, who will have to handle the economic policies and budget management of the government. Tapas Roy has got the command of the Industries Department, which will face the challenge of attracting investment and accelerating industrial development. The health department has been handed over to Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee.
Suvendu Adhikari has kept the most influential departments of the state administration with himself. Along with the Home Department, Land and Land Reforms, Electricity and Law departments will also be under the Chief Minister. Political experts are seeing this as a strategy to keep administrative control strong in the initial phase of the government.
In the major cabinet expansion held on June 1, 35 MLAs were sworn in as ministers. Since then the division of departments has been awaited. Now with the portfolio allocation, the responsibilities of all 41 ministers of the government have been fixed and the administrative work is expected to gain full momentum.
There are many important issues before the new government like employment generation, industrial investment, strengthening health services and infrastructure development. After the allocation of departments, now everyone's eyes will be on how the new team deals with these challenges and what steps are taken to implement the election promises.
