A US military aircraft carrying over 100 undocumented Indian migrants landed at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport in Amritsar, Punjab. According to reports, the deportees included 79 men, 25 women, and 13 children who had entered the United States illegally.

Deportation flight from Texas to India

The US Air Force's C-17 Globemaster transported the deported migrants, who hailed from Punjab and other states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. The aircraft departed from Texas on Monday night (local time) as part of a broader crackdown on illegal immigration.

Many of these individuals had used "donkey routes"—illegal pathways involving multiple countries—to enter the US, spending significant sums of money in the process. However, with stricter immigration enforcement, they now face deportation.

Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration

US President Donald Trump has vowed to implement the largest deportation operation in American history, targeting an estimated 11 million undocumented migrants. His administration has already begun mass deportation flights, sending six planeloads of migrants to Latin America as part of the emergency declaration on immigration.

Last month, reports indicated that India had agreed to accept its citizens living illegally in the US. During his election campaign, Trump reaffirmed his commitment to removing undocumented immigrants, including those from India.

Following his call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after assuming office, Trump remarked that Modi "will do what’s right" in taking back illegal Indian immigrants. Bloomberg News reports that around 18,000 Indians have been identified as undocumented migrants in the US.

More deportations expected

According to sources, the US has plans to deport illegal migrants from Texas, San Diego, and California in the coming weeks. These large-scale deportations signal a renewed focus on strict immigration policies under the Trump administration.
