National News: Senior Delhi BJP leader and first state president, Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, passed away on Tuesday. He had been undergoing treatment at Delhi's AIIMS hospital for the past few days, where he breathed his last at around 6 a.m. this morning at the age of 94.

News of his passing sent shockwaves through political circles. Current Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and several other leaders expressed condolences. Malhotra had an honest and clean image in politics, and he always worked for the benefit of the party and society.

Journey from the Sangh to Politics

Malhotra joined the Sangh with Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani and entered politics through the Jana Sangh. He was always active in spreading the ideology of the Sangh in Delhi and strengthening the BJP.

Journey from Lahore to Delhi

Prof. Malhotra was born on December 3, 1931, in Lahore. He was the fourth of seven children of Kaviraj Khajan Chand. He was not only an influential politician but also contributed to sports and social service. He served as the President of the Delhi Pradesh Jana Sangh (1972-75) and twice as the State President of the Delhi BJP (1977-80, 1980-84).

Political Achievements

Malhotra had a long, active political career. He is credited with strengthening the BJP in Delhi in collaboration with Kedarnath Sahni and Madanlal Khurana. His biggest achievement came in the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, when he defeated former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by a huge margin for the South Delhi seat.

Service as an MP and MLA

In the last 45 years, Malhotra had been an MP from Delhi 5 times and an MLA 2 times. He was the only winning candidate of the BJP from Delhi in the 2004 general election.

Contributions to Education and Sports

Malhotra holds a doctorate in Hindi literature. Apart from politics and social service, he also played an important role in the administration of chess and archery clubs in Delhi. His death is a significant loss not only for Delhi BJP but also for Indian politics. His exemplary contribution and social service will always be remembered.
