New Delhi: A horrifying incident of domestic abuse has sparked outrage in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. A woman was allegedly tied to a tree and beaten by her in-laws in a public display of cruelty. The disturbing video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Public torture raises alarms

The video shows the woman, visibly distressed and crying for help, tied to a tree in a village setting. Bystanders, including women and children, are seen watching the ordeal. The victim's family members from her maternal home eventually arrived and freed her.

FIR filed against in-laws

Based on the viral video and the woman's complaint, the Quarsi police station has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused in-laws. The woman alleges she was subjected to prolonged dowry harassment and molestation by her brother-in-law and father-in-law. When she resisted, they publicly humiliated and assaulted her as "punishment."

Dowry demands and escalating abuse

According to the victim, married in February 2023, her family had offered a substantial dowry as per their means. However, soon after the wedding, her in-laws began demanding a motorbike. The harassment intensified after her father's passing, who couldn't fulfill their additional demands.

The woman narrates the horrific events of June 6, where she was tied to a tree and beaten by her in-laws. Fearing for her life, she escaped with the help of her family and registered a police complaint against her husband and several in-laws.

Victim's family seeks justice

Dharamveer Singh Lodhi, a relative of the victim and District President of Aligarh Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, expressed his shock and dismay at the incident. He confirmed the harassment began shortly after the marriage and escalated despite an attempt at compromise.

Police take action

The Aligarh Police have assured swift action. ASP Amrit Jain confirmed a case has been registered based on the complaint and a team has been formed to apprehend the accused. Legal proceedings are underway, and the police are maintaining peace and order in the area.
