A heart-wrenching incident from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has surfaced, where a 26-year-old woman named Rani succumbed to the trauma of cyber fraud and ended her life by consuming poison. The fraudsters lured her with a false promise of a ₹42 lakh lottery, extracting ₹1.5 lakh from her in the process.
The incident took place in the Hamid Hasan locality of Chilkana. According to reports, Rani, daughter of Khurshid, received a phone call from a scammer a few days ago. The caller claimed that Rani had won a ₹42 lakh lottery but would need to deposit ₹1.5 lakh to claim the amount. Convinced by the scam, Rani borrowed money from neighbors and relatives, depositing it into the fraudster's account.
To further deceive her, the fraudsters sent a fake deposit receipt of ₹42 lakh to her brother’s mobile number. However, when Rani visited the bank to check her account, she found no funds had been credited.
Distraught over the loss and humiliation, Rani consumed poison on Saturday night, ending her life. Her untimely demise has left the family in shock and despair. With her father being physically disabled and the family financially unstable, Rani's tragic end has brought their hardships to the forefront. Notably, her house was built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and she was set to marry soon.
Superintendent of Police (City) Abhimanyu Manglik stated that the matter is under investigation. The family is seeking justice for the cyber fraud that led to the young woman's death.
