Uttar Pradesh: A horrifying incident has emerged from Fatehpur, where a young man lost his life over a love affair. The 28-year-old Mahendra Kumar, alias Chhotu, was brutally beaten to death by his girlfriend's family upon his return from Mumbai. The perpetrators then dumped his body in a dry well located in a forest about 500 meters away from the crime scene.

The tragic sequence of events

Mahendra, a resident of Bidhatipur village under Asodhar police station, had been working in Mumbai. He returned home on Friday, unaware of the grim fate awaiting him. According to reports, the girl's family learned of his arrival and intercepted him.

The last known contact with Mahendra was around 10 AM on Saturday when he spoke with his sister. Shortly after, his phone went off, raising concerns among his family. That night, villagers in Thariyav found an abandoned bag, which they promptly reported to the police. Using identification documents found in the bag, authorities informed Mahendra’s family.

Confession leads to recovery of body

On Sunday morning, Mahendra's family lodged a missing person report, suspecting the involvement of the girl’s family in his disappearance. Under intense interrogation, the girl and her mother confessed to the murder and revealed the location of the body. Acting on their information, the police recovered Mahendra's body from the dry well.

Search for the accused

The girl's father and brother, who allegedly executed the murder, are on the run. Superintendent of Police Arvind Rai confirmed that teams have been deployed to apprehend the fugitives. The case, initially registered as a missing complaint, has now been reclassified as murder.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigations are underway.
