New Delhi: Pakistan has been facing an economic crisis since independence. On the other hand, India has made continuous progress. Today, India is one of the largest economies in the world, whereas Pakistan is on the verge of becoming bankrupt. Meanwhile, a Pakistani expert has advised his country's government to learn from India and make economic progress.

Citing the World Bank report, he said that India has made a place among the countries that are rapidly reducing poverty. After this, he requested Pakistan to learn from India and learn how to bring its citizens out of poverty.

What did the Pakistani expert say?

Dr. Khurram Abbas, Director of the India Study Centre Islamabad (ISSI), wrote on X, "India has established itself as one of the fastest poverty-reducing countries in the world. Between 2011 and 2023, an estimated 496 million people were lifted out of poverty. Extreme poverty (at $3 per day, 2021 PPP) has declined from 27.1% to 2.6%. Source: World Bank 'Poverty and Equity Brief', October 2026."

'Pakistan should learn from its neighbors, India and China, who together have lifted 1.249 billion people—nearly a quarter of humanity—out of poverty. This is an amazing story,' said Dr. Khurram Abbas.

What did the World Bank report say for India?

  • India is mentioned in the World Bank's October 2026 report on poverty and equality.
