Karachi Terror Attack: Two Soldiers Dead, Multiple Wounded After Suicide Strike on Paramilitary Compound (Pinterest)
Pakistan: Terrorists attacked a military compound in Karachi on Friday night. The Frontier Corps base came under fire. The attack started around 8:10 pm and it is still ongoing. It was in the Gulistan-e-Johar area at the Ranchers Karachi Transport office. Terrorists first blew up the main gate. Then gunfire erupted across the area. This was a suicide attack followed by direct gunfire.
Two soldiers are confirmed dead and six more are wounded. They have been taken to Dow University of Health Sciences hospital. One terrorist died in the suicide blast. The others are still fighting. Security forces are engaging them.
The compound is not just a military office but a university is also there. The meteorology department is there too. Multiple targets in one location.
The attackers started with the suicide bombing at the gate. That is typical militant tactic. Blast followed by gunfire that creates chaos and made the defense harder. Gunfire continued for hours. The security forces fought back but the militants held their ground inside the compound.
The Frontier Corps is Pakistan's paramilitary force. They guard borders and handle internal security. They also fight against terrorism. Rangers work under Pakistan's Home Ministry. But they also work with the military when needed. Rangers has two main divisions. Punjab Rangers guards the Punjab border with India. Sindh Rangers handles Sindh province, especially Karachi. They do more than just guard as they handle riots and control violence. They also provide VIP security and secure sensitive areas.
Karachi has seen many attacks. It is a major city having big population. Militants have hit military and civilian targets before. This attack shows security remains a major challenge in Pakistan's biggest city.
