Sports News: India raised strong objections against ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi in the Asian Cricket Council meeting. India and other board members present in the meeting ensured that Naqvi congratulated Team India. Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar demanded that Naqvi immediately hand over the Asia Cup trophy to the ACC headquarters. India has also told the PCB chief that they will take this matter forward before the ICC. In protest against the attitude of the ACC chief, Ashish Shelar walked out of the meeting midway. India was represented in the meeting by BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla and former board treasurer Ashish Shelar. Both are members of the ACC board. Together, they demanded that Mohsin Naqvi immediately deposit the Asia Cup trophy at the Dubai-based ACC headquarters and also informed the Pakistani side that they are ready to raise this issue at the level of the International Cricket Council (ICC). A meeting is scheduled in November.
Rajeev Shukla is the executive board member of BCCI in the ACC board, while Ashish Shelar is an ex-officio board member of BCCI. It also came to light that Shelar boycotted the meeting midway in protest against the ACC chief.
As this website reported on Monday, India believes that Mohsin Naqvi has taken the Asia Cup trophy “personally into his possession” because he walked away with it in the middle of the prize distribution ceremony after the final match. The Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, had defeated rivals Pakistan by five wickets in the Asia Cup final. After this, the Indian players refused to receive the trophy from Naqvi’s hands. Naqvi is Pakistan’s Home Minister and is notorious for his anti-India stance and mocking posts on social media.
