Dhaka: The interim government of Bangladesh has given clear instructions to the Cricket Board to demand that its matches in the T20 World Cup 2026 be shifted out of India. The government believes that in the current circumstances it would not be right for the team to go to India. Information about this decision was made public by sports advisor Asif Nazrul on Saturday.

Why was Sri Lanka chosen instead of India?

Asif Nazrul said that the Bangladesh Cricket Board has been asked to write a letter to the ICC and suggest Sri Lanka as an alternative venue. The government argues that if there are questions regarding the safety and honor of the players, then it would not be right to take the risk.

How did Mustafizur Rahman's case become the reason?

This entire controversy intensified when Kolkata Knight Riders terminated the contract of fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman. This decision was taken after the instructions of the Indian Cricket Board. In Bangladesh, this was seen as an insult to both the player and the country, which further increased the resentment.

Why was there an emergency meeting of BCB on this issue?

According to sources, the Bangladesh Cricket Board called an emergency meeting on Saturday. In this, security arrangements regarding the upcoming World Cup matches and treatment of players were discussed. The question put before the board was that when one player was not considered safe, how would the safety of the entire team be ensured?

Why did Asif Nazrul give such a strong statement?

Asif Nazrul said that Bangladesh will not accept insults to its players, cricket, or the country under any circumstances. He even said that if needed, the telecast of IPL in Bangladesh can also be banned. His statement made the matter more serious.

What will be said in the letter to ICC?

The government says that it will be clearly told to the ICC that if a Bangladeshi player cannot play in India despite having a valid contract, then it is a matter of concern. On this basis, a demand will be made to hold the World Cup matches in some other country.

Where were Bangladesh's matches to be held in the World Cup?

As per the schedule of the T20 World Cup, many matches of Bangladesh were scheduled in India. The first match was to be played in Kolkata, while the last league match was to be played in Mumbai. Now uncertainty has arisen regarding all these matches.

Will it be easy for ICC to relocate?

Cricket experts say that it is not easy to change the match venues of such a big tournament. For this, the three host countries and the ICC will have to take a decision together.

Why did the anger of former players come to the fore?

Former Bangladeshi players and officials are also hurt by this whole matter. He says that Bangladeshi players playing in the IPL have always gotten the support of the country. In such a situation, this kind of behavior is disappointing for both the fans and the players.
