Washington: Indian-origin American MP Ro Khanna made a scathing attack on President Donald Trump over the US military action in Venezuela. He said that if the war for regime change was normalized, America would set a dangerous example for the world. Khanna described this action as a “war of choice.”

Does this weaken America's moral position?

Posting on Twitter, Khanna asked what the US would say if tomorrow Russia tried to capture President Zelensky in Ukraine or China attacked the leadership of Taiwan. According to him, the actions taken in Venezuela have dealt a deep blow to America's moral strength.

Why is there resentment among Democrats about this operation?

In this action of America, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were detained. The Trump administration called it a necessary step, but many Democratic Party leaders raised questions on its legal validity and future impact.

Why did Khanna mention Trump's supporters?

Ro Khanna said that Trump has betrayed his own supporters. According to him, America repeatedly talks about learning lessons from wars like Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya, but the same mistakes are repeated every time. He alleged that powerful groups associated with foreign policy continuously pursue the military path.

Are domestic issues being left behind due to foreign wars?

Khanna says that due to repeated military interventions abroad, major issues within America are ignored. He said that instead of focusing on issues like lack of good jobs, inflation, health services, child care, and education, the country was being drawn into external conflicts.

What did other Democrat leaders say?

Congressman Seth Moulton said Congress had not approved the action and Venezuela posed no immediate threat to the United States. He called it an unplanned move and called it “another Iraq-like mistake.”

Why was an objection raised even on Maduro's departure?

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz described Maduro's withdrawal as positive but added that Congress should have been consulted before taking such a major action. A large number of Venezuelans live in his constituency, so they are directly affected by this decision.

Was it declared illegal?

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib called the attack unprovoked and illegal. He said that this is a violation of both international law and the US Constitution, and the American people are not in favor of another regime change war.

Why was the administration accused of giving wrong information?

Senator Andy Kim alleged that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth misled Congress. According to him, approval was deliberately not taken because the public is not in support of another war.

Why was the demand for calling the House immediately?

Betty McCollum, the senior Democrat on the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, called the attacks a flagrant violation. He demanded from House Speaker Mike Johnson that the House be convened immediately so that the President's unbridled powers can be curbed.
