India Creates History with Over 1,000 Runs in a Single Test (Source: ANI)
In a historic Test match against England at Birmingham, the Indian cricket team reached a major milestone by scoring over 1,000 runs across both innings. This marks the first time India has achieved this rare feat in Test cricket.
India scored 427/6 in their second innings after amassing 587 runs in their first innings. This gave them a combined total of 1,014 runs, placing them among a handful of teams in cricket history to cross the four-digit mark in a single match. At a Test match against the West Indies at Kingston in 1930, England set a record of 1,131 runs.
England got an early wicket after opting to bowl first. But India bounced back through a solid partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal (87) and Karun Nair (31). Skipper Shubman Gill took charge after that, stitching together a 203-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja (89) and another 144 runs with Washington Sundar (42). Gill’s knock of 269 came off 387 balls and included 30 boundaries and three sixes. For England, Shoaib Bashir picked up three wickets, while Woakes and Tongue took two each.
England stumbled to 84/5 early in their first innings. However, Harry Brook (158) and Jamie Smith (184*) put on a massive 303-run stand to lift their total to 407. Despite this resistance, Mohammed Siraj (6/70) and Akash Deep (4/88) wrapped up the remaining wickets quickly, handing India a 180-run lead.
India’s second innings started with a quick-fire 50-run stand. KL Rahul scored 55, while Rishabh Pant smashed 65 off 58 balls. Another big stand of 175 runs between Gill (161) and Jadeja (69*) helped India declare at 427/6, setting England a huge target of 608 runs — their second-highest in Test history.
