Ahmedabad: Playing against the Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru's veteran fast bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, has made history. He has shattered Mitchell Johnson's record. Bhuvneshwar maintained his exceptional form even in the final match against Gujarat. During the Powerplay itself, he dismissed Gujarat opener Sai Sudharsan, sending him back to the pavilion, and in doing so, etched his name in history.

The fast bowler has delivered a magnificent bowling performance during the Powerplay phase throughout the 2026 IPL season. Furthermore, a record has also been registered in Bengaluru's name. Bengaluru has broken a 13-year-old record, claiming the distinction of taking the most wickets in the Powerplay during a single IPL season in the tournament's history. Previously, this record was held by the Mumbai Indians.

How Did Royal Challengers Bengaluru Make History?

Bengaluru has claimed the record for taking the most wickets during the Powerplay phase in a single IPL season. The Bengaluru team has secured 35 wickets during the Powerplay this season. Prior to this, the record was jointly held by Mumbai and RCB. Bengaluru had taken 33 wickets in 2023, while Mumbai achieved the feat of taking 33 wickets in the Powerplay back in 2013. Now, Bengaluru has shattered that 13-year-old record this season.

How Did Bhuvneshwar Kumar Make History?

Bhuvneshwar has made history in this match. This year, he has delivered success to RCB during the Powerplay in almost every game. His continued brilliance was on display in the final match as well; he claimed Sudharsan as his victim, thereby breaking Mitchell Johnson's record. Bhuvneshwar has taken 17 wickets during the Powerplay this season. He has surpassed Mitchell Johnson, who had claimed 16 wickets in 2013. Bhuvneshwar has also equaled the record held by Mohammed Shami, who had taken 17 wickets in 2023.
