Ahemdabad: Sanju Samson, who scored 321 runs in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, was named Player of the Tournament. After the final victory, Samson said that this moment was like a dream come true for him. He explained that the conversations and guidance he received from Sachin Tendulkar during difficult times helped him immensely.
Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson, who performed brilliantly in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, was named Player of the Tournament. Samson, who scored 321 runs throughout the tournament, said after the final victory that this moment was like a dream come true for him. Samson, who appeared emotional after the victory in the final, said that he was unable to express his feelings in words.
Samson said, "It feels like a dream. I am extremely happy and grateful. I am at a loss for words right now and it is difficult to control my emotions." Samson explained that this journey began a year or two ago. He said he was part of the team for the 2024 T20 World Cup, but didn't get a chance to play.
He said, "To be honest, it started a year or two ago. I was in the 2024 World Cup squad, but didn't get a chance to play. Since then, I've been constantly imagining and working hard on what I want to do when I get my chance."
He was devastated after the New Zealand series. Samson also admitted that there was a time when he was completely disheartened. He said he was mentally disturbed after the series against New Zealand.
He said, "After the New Zealand series, I was completely devastated. My dreams were shattered, and I was wondering what to do next. But perhaps God had other plans. Ultimately, I was rewarded for having the courage to dream big."
Samson said that many former players helped him during his difficult times. He was in constant communication with the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar in particular. He said, "Many former players contacted me and tried to help. For the past few months, I've been in constant contact with Sachin Sir. I've spoken to him personally and had long discussions. It's a huge privilege to receive guidance from a great player like him."
