Ahmedabad: After winning their third ICC T20 World Cup title on Sunday, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav called Jasprit Bumrah a "national treasure" for his brilliant bowling, a fitting metaphor for the charismatic fast bowler. With a 96-run win against New Zealand, Suryakumar's team became the first team to win consecutive World T20 titles in men's cricket, and also the first to win the trophy on home soil.

What did captain Suryakumar say about Bumrah?
Bumrah bowled brilliantly in the final, taking four wickets for 15 runs in four overs, playing a key role in dismissing New Zealand for 159. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Suryakumar said, "Bumrah is a once-in-a-generation bowler. I can call him a national treasure. He knows how to take wickets; he is the best player in the game."

Suryakumar said, "I think it will take some time, but I am definitely very happy. It has been a long journey." It started after the 2024 World Cup. Jay Shah, Rohit bhai, they showed faith in me and gave me the opportunity to lead. It's been a long journey from there, and it's great to be here and win.'

Two years of consistent performance
The captain heaped praise on his players for helping the team achieve unprecedented success. He said, "We've played good cricket over the last two years, and we just wanted to follow the habits we adopted for the 2024 World Cup. The boys adapted very well."

On maintaining faith in the players, the Mumbai player said, "I think it's very important to understand what they're capable of. I knew they had the ability to win matches. The timing was perfect. Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma are top players, and we knew they would do something special, and they did just that in the final."
