Delhi ATM Fraud: Dwarka Police Arrest Two Men Using Metal Strips to Withdraw Cash (TIN)
New Delhi: In the national capital, miscreants devised a new method to withdraw cash from ATMs, but the vigilance of the Dwarka District Police thwarted their plans. The Special Staff team arrested two young men accused of withdrawing cash by inserting metal strips into ATMs. The police recovered five metal strips, three debit cards, two mobile phones, and a Maruti Swift Dzire car fitted with a fake number plate from their possession.
Dwarka District DCP Kushal Pal Singh stated that on October 21, the control room of Axis Bank in Mumbai reported an attempted theft and tampering with an ATM located in Mahavir Enclave Part-2, within the jurisdiction of the Dabri police station. Upon arrival, the police did not find the suspects. A similar incident was also reported in the Palam area. Subsequently, a case was registered at the Dabri police station (FIR No. 627/26) under sections 318(4), 305, and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
CCTV footage revealed the truth, leading to arrests before a second incident could occur.
Acting on the DCP’s instructions, the Special Staff team examined CCTV footage, activated local intelligence networks, and used technical surveillance to track down the suspects. On October 23, in Sector-26, Dwarka, the police apprehended Jamil Khan (26) and Vinay (23)—both residents of Mohammadpur Sohna, Gurugram—as they were allegedly preparing to commit another crime.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to withdrawing cash by inserting metal strips into ATMs. They also revealed that they had used the same method to tamper with four to five other ATMs in the Sagarpur and Rohini areas. The police are now investigating their involvement in other such incidents.
The team responsible for the operation, led by Inspector Kamlesh Kumar, included Sub-Inspectors Jaibir and Dinesh Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Kartar Singh, and Head Constables Naresh, Rajesh, and Ajay. The entire operation was carried out under the supervision of ACP (Operations Units) Subhash Malik.
