Delhi Crime News: Maya Gang Suspect Among Two Arrested, 11 Theft and Snatching Cases Solved (TIN)
New Delhi: The South-East District Police has tightened its grip on criminals operating on the streets of Delhi, resulting in the arrest of two individuals. One of the suspects is allegedly a member of the notorious 'Maya Gang' and is also wanted in a case registered under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). According to the police, the investigation into the activities of these two individuals has led to the resolution of 11 cases involving theft, snatching, and burglary.
South-East District DCP Vineet Kumar stated that on the night of October 25, Constables Azharuddin and Devendra—attached to the Kalindi Kunj Police Station—were patrolling near Peepal Chowk, Pusta Road, in Madanpur Khadar. They signaled for two men on a motorcycle to stop, but the suspects attempted to flee. During this attempt, the motorcycle skidded, causing both men to fall onto the road, where they were immediately apprehended by the alert police personnel.
A search of the suspects revealed an illegal, spring-loaded (button-operated) knife in the possession of Sumit Beniwal. A Realme mobile phone recovered from Mohammad Umar Ansari was linked to a snatching case registered at the Amar Colony Police Station. Additionally, a 'Nothing' brand mobile phone was recovered from Sumit, and a Hero Splendor Plus motorcycle was seized from the pair; the investigation revealed that the motorcycle had been stolen from the New Friends Colony area.
According to the police, 23-year-old Umar Ansari is a 'declared bad character' (habitual offender) at the Amar Colony Police Station, with 11 prior criminal cases registered against him. Meanwhile, 23-year-old Sumit Beniwal has 18 cases registered against him, involving charges of theft, burglary, and violations of the Arms Act. The police team involved in the operation included Constables Azharuddin and Devendra.
