Delhi quadruple murder: Man arrested in Rajasthan for killing wife, 3 kids over debt

New Delhi: The Delhi Police has arrested a 42-year-old habitual gambler for allegedly killing his wife and three daughters, aged between three and five years, by slitting their throats with a sharp-edged weapon at his residence in Delhi's Samaypur Badli, officials said.

From where was the accused arrested?

Th police arrested the accused, identified as Munchun Kewat alias Ashish, who is a vegetable seller at Azadpur Mandi on Saturday from Kishangarh in Ajmer district of Rajasthan.

The accused was in debt and allegedly killed his wife and three minor daughters by slitting their throats at their home, following a quarrel with his wife over the debt issue.

What is the reason of killing?

According to police, on February 23, Munchun received a call regarding the debt, which triggered a chain of events that resulted in the death of his wife and three daughters.

After receiving the call, the accused  allegedly purchased a Rs 90 knife, that is used to cut jackfruits, with which he  murdered the four at their residence.

After the arrest, the accused during the questioning claimed he had taken a loan from a man in Bihar who had been threatening him. 

According to his claims, police also tried contacting the person he named, but the phone was switched off. A team has been sent to Bihar to verify the claim, sources said.

How did the accused suffer losses?

According to reports, the accused used to be a habitual gambler who wagered both online and offline on cricket matches and card games. Kewat had suffered heavy losses and accumulated debt. 

Last month, the accused borrowed Rs 2 lakh from his in-laws and reportedly repaid Rs 60,000 to one of his lenders, Mithilesh, and Rs 40,000 to a ginger supplier to clear parts of the dues, but lost the remaining Rs 1 lakh in further betting.

Later on February 23, the accused received a call from Mithilesh demanding to clear the dues. In anger, he purchased a knife used for cutting jackfruit for Rs  90 from the market and hid it at home. 

On February 25, he allegedly slit his wife's throat while she was asleep. When his eldest daughter woke up and began crying, he killed her as well, followed by the two younger children.

The accused told police that he attempted to kill himself but could not. And instead fled to Ajmer, where he use to previously work.
