Thorough Inspection Conducted, From Cleanliness to Food Quality (Pankaj Rai)
New Delhi: Concerned about the quality and hygiene of midday meals served to children studying in Delhi Municipal Corporation schools, Mayor Parvesh Wahi made a surprise visit to a kitchen on Monday. The Mayor conducted an unannounced inspection at the Maitreyi Mid-Day Meal Kitchen in Pooth village, reviewing the entire system from food preparation to quality control.
During the inspection, the kitchen premises were found to be clean and well-maintained. The Mayor closely examined the cleanliness practices followed by staff at the food preparation area, as well as the quality of the ingredients being used. The food materials were found to be in accordance with the prescribed standards, while the necessary food safety measures were also found to be in place.
The Mayor inspected kadhi-rice being prepared for schools operating in the morning shift and puri-sabzi being prepared for the evening shift. He tasted the kadhi-rice and expressed satisfaction with its quality. He said the kitchens supplying midday meals to MCD schools were as clean and well-equipped as five-star hotels.
The Mayor said that under the PM POSHAN scheme, kitchens are being provided with food supplies and financial assistance on time. He stressed that midday meals play an important role in the overall development of children and made it clear that there would be no compromise on food quality.
