Rajasthan: Tension In Jodhpur After Sisters Commit Suicide Following Years Of Gang Rape And Blackmail

Jodhpur: A shocking incident has come to light from the Kherapa police station area in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Here, in March, a woman committed suicide following a gang rape and subsequent blackmailing. Now, two months later, the woman's younger sister has also taken her own life. The younger sister had been making repeated rounds of the police station in a relentless effort to secure justice for her elder sister.

Following the suicides of the two sisters, an atmosphere of outrage prevails among the local residents, and questions are being raised regarding the conduct of the police. Locals allege that the police failed to take timely action, a failure that ultimately drove both sisters to take this drastic step.

What is the Case?

According to a report by NDTV, the younger sister had filed a police complaint on April 11 regarding the heinous acts committed against her elder sister. The complaint alleged that the accused—Mahipal, the operator of a local 'e-Mitra' service center—had ensnared her elder sister in a romantic trap and secretly recorded obscene videos of her. In connection with this case, the younger sister had named a total of eight individuals in her complaint.

In her complaint, the younger sister stated that Mahipal and his accomplices had gang-raped her elder sister for nearly four years while also subjecting her to threats. During this period, they also extorted money from her through blackmail. Overwhelmed by the ordeal, the elder sister committed suicide on March 20. After the elder sister took her own life by hanging herself, the younger sister had warned the police that if justice was not served, she too would end her life. It is alleged that although the police did register an FIR following the younger sister's complaint, they failed to take any concrete action.

Was There Sexual Harassment of the Younger Sister as Well?

Following the elder sister's suicide, the accused allegedly preyed upon the younger sister as well, making her a victim of their lust. The accused reportedly raped the younger sister multiple times, threatening to make the videos public if she resisted. The younger sister alleged that, despite the registration of the FIR, the accused remained undeterred and boasted that the police were powerless to harm them.

Distraught by the police's inaction and exhausted from her futile visits to the police station, the younger sister climbed atop a water tank and consumed poison. Subsequently, she passed away while being rushed to the hospital. Widespread outrage has erupted within the Rajput community following the revelation of this shocking case involving the suicide of two sisters. A crowd gathered outside MDM Hospital to stage a protest.
