Ghaziabad: After the police arrested three people in a sex racket case that was operating from a hotel in Vaishali's Ghaziabad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) on Friday has suspended a sub-inspector and two constables for not performing their duty properly.

Who are suspended?

DCP (Trans Hindon) Nimish Patil suspended sub-inspector Anuj and two constables, Muskesh and Omveer, stating that it is the police's responsibility to keep track of illegal activities in the area and report them to higher authorities.

The DCP said that "The SI and constables did not perform their duties properly. It's their duty to keep track of illegal activities in the area."

What is the case?

The police on Wednesday arrested three persons after a sex racket operating from a hotel called Mahagun Sarovar Portigo was uncovered in Vaishali.

During the raid, police rescued 11 girls from the hotel, hailing from various states. About 500 photos of girls and more than 100 customers' contact details  were recovered from the manager's phone, revealing the scale of the racket. 

Prostitution was facilitated by sending photos and rates to customers via WhatsApp.

Who all are arrested?

Among the arrested accused are the hotel manager Rahul Sharma (46), who is believed to be the mastermind of the racket. Waiters Sunil Singh (39) and Ankit Chauhan (19). 

ACP Indirapuram Abhishek Srivastava stated that based on a tip-off, he and police teams raided the hotel in Sector 3F, Vaishali at around 2 pm.

"The 11 women who were rescued are all aged between 21 to 31 years and belong to Gujarat, Delhi, West Bengal and Odisha," he said.

The police also recovered a packet of marijuana, some hashish and other objectionable items from the possession of the accused.

What did rescued women say?

The ACP said that, "During interrogation, the women said Rahul lured them to the hotel on the pretext of employment and forced them into sex work. He allegedly charged Rs 15,000–Rs 20,000 from customers and gave Rs 5,000 to each woman for a night."

Some of the women have also said foreigners came to the hotel as sex workers, he added.

Are the accused still absconding?

The ACP said that Sumit Rawat, resident of Kotdwar, Uttarakhand, Rahul, Nirdosh, and Afzal, who were involved in the racket, are absconding. Police are searching for them. Nirdosh is also said to be associated with a political party.
