Ghaziabad: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Delhi Police has allegedly caused a major accident in Ghaziabad district. The ASI reportedly ran over several people with is car and hit multiple vehicles under the influence of alcohol.
The accident occurred on Niwari Road in Modinagar on Saturday morning. The car was traveling at such a high speed that it collided violently with three vehicles one after another. Six people, including a young woman, were injured in the accident. Some of the injured are reported to be in serious condition.
After the collision, the ASI's car went out of control and crashed into a drain wall. Hearing the sound of the crash, people rushed to the spot. When the man in the car was pulled out, he was so intoxicated that he couldn't even stand properly.
According to reports an angry mob severely beat up the intoxicated ASI. All the injured and the accused ASI have been admitted to the hospital. The police have taken the accused ASI into custody.
The accused has been identified as Satendra Malik, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, who is posted at the Delhi Model Town Police Lines.
Eyewitnesses said that the car first hit the motorcycle of Sabbal and Aslam from Kidwainagar, then hit another motorcycle and an e-rickshaw. Due to the critical condition of the injured, they have been referred to a hospital in Meerut, while the other injured are being treated at hospitals in Modinagar.
The police, who arrived at the scene, recovered an empty liquor bottle and a glass from inside the car. The medical examination also confirmed that the ASI had consumed alcohol. A case has been registered at the Modinagar police station based on the complaint of the injured person's brother. The ACP Modinagar said that a case has been registered and the accused ASI has been taken into custody. The police are also searching for the ASI's accomplice.
